Born on September 25, 1968, Willard Christopher “Will” Smith, Jr. grew up in Philadelphia where his father was a refrigeration engineer and his mother, a school administrator. He formed the hip-hop rap duo DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince with childhood friend, Jeffery Townes and earned the first ever Rap Grammy award in 1988.
Smith’s acting career was launched in 1990 through the sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. During the show’s 6-year run, Smith was able to land several roles in notable films. His big break came in 1995 when he teamed up with Martin Lawrence for Bad Boys. Since then, Smith has made one blockbuster film after another. His latest film, Hancock; like his December 2007 hit, I am Legend; was number one for several weeks. His next movie, Seven Pounds, is a dramatic vehicle currently in post production.
Aside from his numerous box office hits, Smith also has 4 rap albums to his name which include the hits Men In Black, Getting’ Jiggy With It, and Just the Two of Us.
Smith has a son, Trey, from a previous marriage. He and wife Jada are blessed with 2 children; Jaden and Willow who both recently appeared in his films. He and wife Jada practice Scientology together with good friend, Tom Cruise.
