Congress Battle Begin Adwars

March 23rd, 2009

The battle for 435 House seats has begun. House Democrats have taken the initial step in launching the first television commercial for the 2008 Congressional battle by putting the spotlight on Pennsylvania’s Republican Representative, Lou Barletta. In a 30-second ad that shows an image of President Bush, Barletta is described as a Bush ally who strongly supported the Bush’s failed economic policies. The ad claims Barletta is not a friend of the middle class. Republicans answered the ad with a warning addressed to Rep. Paul Kanjorski, who, they said, has more reasons to fear than Barletta. Republicans call Kanjorski a “corrupt” and incompetent politician. As the months bring us closer to November, a plethora of advertisements calling this and that candidate unworthy for some reason will definitely crop up. In all probability, the war will get really ugly. The Democrats will obviously continue to bring up the President’s name in their campaign, especially since Bush recently took a large dive in the popularity ratings. An estimated $150,000 was reportedly spent for the initial television ad, but the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee will be willing to spend more in the coming weeks. These outrageous ad wars have become part and parcel of the American election process. Whether the ads will effectively sway voters’ trust in a candidate, we cannot tell. We’ll have to wait till November comes.
