Many individuals end up at a time in their life where future is unclear. You might be a student who’s recently got your degree, or perhaps in your 60s and just retired. Possibly you’ve been laid off from work and are discouraged at being unemployed, but equally demoralised by the sort of work placements available. During times like these, we often look for an alternative course of action. An organization called DNA (dna-uk.org) are proffering such an alternative – to make great use of your youth work gap year by entering a discipleship christian course.

DNA are proffering an 11 month long experience of total immersion into Christian Discipleship, running from October to August. This is seen as a pragmatic experience, needing the enrollee to dwell inside a Christian environment – either within your own church if you already belong to one, or a designated church if you are not presently a fellow member of a church. Your typical day will involve helping out with the day to day projects of the church, and to be trained by its fellow members in bible studies. The course assures faith in action, so those who sign up can expect a rather pragmatic experience of Christian faith, and not only the theoretical study.

Further selling points of the placements include:-

outfitting you for church-based leading

developing you for work

dependence on the person and power of the Holy Spirit in and through you

offering an accredited programme via the National Open College Network

relational, non religious Christianity; it’s fun!

There are three sorts of course open : Track 1 is the most common entry point to DNA – it is the most complete DNA expereince. The over-whelming majority of people decide that this is the best pick for them. Track 2 is more suited to you if taking a whole “year-out” is not practically possible. This could be for reasons like your workplace or family commitments. Track 2 consequently provides some tractability. Track 3 offers individuals the chance of coming in to be with us for as many individual training sessions or days as they wish.

Are you believing God for something and see no evidence of anything taking place? It can be frustrating. Especially when you feel like you are in great need for God to act NOW!

I used to wonder what God was doing when I needed Him most. I certainly didn’t see Him doing what I thought He should be doing. But, you know, we are to live by faith, not by sight. Hebrews 11:1 says, ‘Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

I believe that if we accept the fact that God’s ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are deeper than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:9), we can trust that he has our best interest in mind and he is working all things for our good. “For I know the thoughts I think toward you, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

Even though you may not be seeing results, be assured, God did not forget about you. He’s busy behind the scenes. Keep on believing and doing the things you know you should be doing and soon you will reap a harvest if you don’t give up. (Galations 6:9)
